For most Optimates, spending time in the great outdoors is a big part of our lives when we're not hard at work, so we're doing whatever we can as a company to improve our environmental sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint. We're also proud to have developed Envirostep, a free web-based system that every Kiwi company can use to assess and improve their own sustainability.
Whether we're out hammering the mountain bike trails of the Hunua Ranges or Makara Peak, going for a run around the bays, fishing up dinner from the Hauraki Gulf, or simply enjoying a glass of wine and some cricket in the backyard, New Zealand's natural environment is a big part of all our lives here at Optimation. So as a company, we're committed to doing whatever we can to improve our environmental sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint.
We provide facilities and programmes to enable our staff to minimise waste and maximise resources in order to be more energy efficient. This includes recycling whatever we can and having our staff take public transport between sites whenever possible. As a technology company, we're particularly aware of the impact hardware has on the environment so when we evaluate products and recommend them to you, we take the vendor's environmental policy into consideration.
We comply with all environmentally related legislation and codes of practices such as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000. The key principles of this Act are that all persons exercising responsibilities, powers, or functions under it must take into account:
We were also one of the first users of Envirostep, an online self-assessment tool we built for the Ministry of Economic Development that is designed to enable business people to profile their own environmental sustainability and then get the information and resources they need to make improvements. Our baseline assessment showed that we rated well in our overall environmental commitment, and we are now targeting key areas where we can improve, such as communicating policies and practices to our staff and customers.
If you want to join us in improving the environmental sustainability of your business, you can read more about Envirostep, and then try the tool for yourself.
