Porirua City Council takes out top web award

Congratulations are due to Porirua City Council, which has taken out the top award for local government websites at the ALGIM 2010 Web Symposium, held earlier this week in Wellington. First place is an improvement over third place last year, and a stunning climb from 23rd place (out of 85 councils) in 2008.
Award winners are chosen after a detailed website audit, which judges sites based on both technical and functional criteria including:
- Basic features such as ease of navigation, search functionality, 'contact us' information and overview of services
- Availability of information like meeting agendas and minutes, events calendars, and council plans
- Specific information related to services or activities
- Activities such as paying rates, submissions, feedback, and making applications
- Response times to email enquiries
