Celebrating 20 Years 2011: Microsoft Buys Skype And Optimation Boosts Leadership Team

Video calls were once the domain of futuristic films or incredibly expensive video-conferencing suites, but voice-over-IP brought cheap video calls to the masses. In 2011, Microsoft saw the way the VoIP wind was blowing and coughed up US$8.5 billion to buy Skype, making it the company’s biggest ever acquisition.

Meanwhile at Optimation, we were sharpening our strategic edge and boosting our leadership team with some key senior appointments. New Optimates in 2011 included Scott McCallum in the GM Professional Services hotseat, Testing supremo John Bunting, and Consulting leader Anthony Hafoka.

Over the past week, we've been celebrating our anniversary with clients and partners in Auckland and Wellington. Next week, we'll be wrapping up our stroll through 20 years of history with a final peek and some of the highlights.
